Learning Log information and resources
Year 1 Harvest Festival

Just in case you were unable to see our church performance, here's a second chance to see how well the children enjoyed singing their Harvest song!

The Three Little Pigs

The children have been learning the story of the Three Little Pigs. We have practised the story using the talk for writing process of creating a story map and actions to help us remember the words.

Here is the beginning of the story.
Science

In science we have been looking at different materials and their properties such as metal, wood, plastic, glass and water.

We looked at what materials Bob the Builder or Mr Silly would use to create a house.

We made our own house for the Three Little Pigs using paper.

Here are the results.
Unfortunately along came the Big Bad Wolf!

"Little Pig, Little Pig let me come in!"
"No, no, no, not by the hair on my chinny, chin, chin." "We won't let you in."

"Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down!"
So the children looked at ways to make their paper houses stronger. They decided that rolled up paper would make them more secure and then formed them into frames to stand them up.

Here are the results.

Other things we have been doing!

Why not ask your child to explain what we were doing in each photo?

What did we do at the beach?

Autumn 1 week 1

Dear parents,

just a quick note to say how delighted I am that the year 1 children have settled  so well into their new class.

Over the coming days I will be sending out reminders on things happening in class for the Autumn term, if there is anything you are unsure about then please catch up after school, or arrange a meeting via the school office.

On Monday you should receive their home learning log books with a copy of the activities which are to be completed as specified, either daily or weekly.

Inside the learning log book will be your child's log on details for school360. They will need to enter their user name and password to be able to access the full range of Year 1 resources. Please note that the only capital letter needed is the first character of the password, all other letters should be lower case. Don't worry, we will be practising logging on in class.

Your children should also return with 2 home reading books. A RWI book which is matched to their reading level and an Oxford Reading Tree book which will extend their reading further. Please try and read the RWI book on a daily basis. I will be inviting parents to a phonics meeting to explain school practices and how you can help at home.

Just to confirm that children should come in suitable PE clothes on both Monday and Tuesday (sorry, but it's the only days that these external providers are available.). The children will benefit from lessons from Newcastle United (Monday) and Little Movers (Tuesday).

Letters have already been sent out regarding Key Stage One after school clubs:-
Monday - NUFC foundation
Tuesday - Helen Poulton fitness club

The Three Little Pigs

Ask your child to tell / show you the story of the Three Little Pigs by using the actions we have been using in class.
