History

Intent

At Amble First School the teaching of history aims to:

  • Help pupils gain a strong knowledge and understanding of Britain's past, and that of the world around us.
  • Inspire curiosity to know more about the past.
  •  Enable pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, evaluate evidence, and develop their judgement and perspective.
  •  Understand the complexity of people's lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies, and relationships between different groups of people.
  •  Understand their own identities and the challenges of the times we live in.

Implementation

We follow the National Curriculum for history in Key Stages 1 and 2. The National Curriculum document can be found here:

Thinking and linking our history knowledge and understanding is part of the bigger picture at Amble First School. We hold a whole school history day every other year (alternating with geography) and take part in a range of visits and trips, including:

Blyth Battery
The Hancock Museum
Beamish Open Air Museum
Cragside
Woodhorn Museum
Alnwick Castle
Warkworth Castle
