Modern Foreign Language (French)

At Amble First School the teaching of French aims to ensure that all pupils:
  • understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources
  • speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation
  • can write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt
  • discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied
We follow the National Curriculum for M.F.L which sets out the statutory programmes of study for Key Stage 2.

At Amble First School our Key Stage 2 pupils have the opportunity to study French. We have weekly lessons where children enjoy speaking, listening, singing, reading and writing in French.

We encourage children to develop a curiosity and the confidence to explore other countries, cultures and languages. Children understand that we live in a multi-lingual society and that it is a valuable skill to be able to communicate effectively with others in another language.
