At Amble first School the teaching of Physical Education aims to ensure that all pupils:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives.
At Amble First School we believe Physical Education (PE) is a crucial and fundamental part of the curriculum. We strive to ensure all children participate in a wide range of physical activities both in and out of school. Children here thoroughly enjoy developing and performing their physical ability in PE lessons and through Sports Partnership festivals and competitions to embed values such as fairness and respect.
We follow National curriculum for Physical Education. This sets out the statutory programmes of study for each year group from Reception to Year Four and provides us with ideas for activities.

Our staff will be supported by external providers such as Newcastle United Foundation, Little Movers, as well as fully qualified dance, gymnastics and yoga teachers, to deliver a high quality PE curriculum during 2020/2021.
Children participate in at least 2 hours of PE a week and sometimes take part in full day activities. As well as weekly timetabled PE lessons, each class travel to the local swimming pool to be taught to swim by qualified swimming instructors.
Our staff are fully trained in the Beach school philosophy so every term all classes can participate in outdoor learning activities on the local beach.
In the Summer Term all children participate in our “health and wellbeing” week and help raise money for charity, regular events such as hula-hoop or skip-a-thon performances are popular with the children and parents.
Children are given the opportunity to attend our local Schools Sports partnership festival and fun events which include hula-hoop, gymnastics and trampoline, tag-rugby and orienteering. They can also participate in many competitions and sporting events throughout the year.
Teachers have been challenged to plan regular lesson breaks following our Active 30 philosophy, the children enjoy the use of a new running track for their daily mile challlenges.
Sports Clubs:
We have a wide range of sports club at Amble First School for both KS1 and KS2, running after school. Over the course of the year these include multi-skills, dance, gymnastics, rounders and benchball.
Trident Soccer provides Friday after school football sessions for all age groups.
We are proud to say that PE is a popular and enjoyable subject for all children at Amble First School, which has been recognised by the Gold award from the School Games Mark.
